January, 2010
Every New School year brings change to certain areas of the school. In this new year change has come to our group too.
The first change has been a change in leadership. As many of you know Caroline Morsink, our former Chairperson stepped down in June, after serving the school community for at least 12 years. Caroline carried out this roll, thoroughly, confidently and with much enthusiasm. We would like to take this opportunity to formally thank Caroline for all her service and we pray that she will know God's blessing and direction in whatever lies ahead for her, now that her 3 children have graduated from Emmanuel. Although we know she will not be far away from the school has she now has a higher calling on the Board of Directors.
Caroline's leaving meant that we needed someone else to take over the role. So that is when I, (Sara Cherry) felt the calling to pick up the baton and the challenge. This is something I felt I had a passion for in the school and I was co-chair with Caroline for 2 years in the past.
I very much appreciate and need the support of all of our volunteers and our existing executive committee;
| Treasurer: Jackie Irwin |
Vice-Chairperson: Alana Schmidt |
| Secretary: Karen Frank |
GWW: Niolla Johnston |
| Pray Partner Coordinator/Telephonist : Kathy Stott |
Please pray for this team of people as we go about the business of strengthening and supporting the life of the school.
A second change we have made has been to our name, we are now called School Life Volunteers and not School Life Committee. We dropped the word committee as we wanted people to know that it is an open group and any parent can be part of our team, they are not required to be voted in nor have had to be around the school for a long time.
So what is SLV, you may ask. We are a team of people made up of parents from the school. It is an important part of the school as it enables parents to work together with the teachers, staff and students at many events and programmes throughout the school year. It is a privilege to be able to work together and to serve God and our community.
We would love to see many more parents sign up and be a part of this team, both from the English sector and the French sector.
We meet once a month, on the first Thursday of the month, (providing the school is open) during school hours, 11:30am ? 12:45pm approx. You do not have to attend the meetings in order to be part of SLV, we understand not everyone can make these meetings, so we forward our minutes to you via email to keep you up with events that are up and coming and the help required. Our meetings are a great way to get to know each other better as well as keeping up to date with what is happening in the school.
Some of our annual events that we help with have already taken place:
School BBQ, Terry Fox Walk, Fieldtrips, Landscaping, Christmas Brunch. Upcoming events that need volunteer help are: Teacher Appreciation Week, High School Winter Formal, Fashion Show, Grandparents Tea and the High School Drama Production.
There are many more to come and ˇ®many hands make light work!!!'
If you would like to sign up or want any further information please email me at cherrys@videotron.ca
We look forward to the opportunities to work and serve together this year and it is our prayer ˇ®that we will do all things for the Glory of God'.
Sara Cherry,
School Life Volunteers
